About this poster
Here’s the third poster for Jack White’s blistering Atlanta area takeover.
It shows Frank “Slivers” Oakly as he gradually got tangled up in blue.
Thanks to Gil “Needles” Wadsworth for getting me a higher resolution version of this image than what’s available on online.
He had a folder ready with Slivers hi-res he collected over the years.
Gil was a professional clown and historian of the clowning arts before becoming a television producer.
He might be the best storyteller I’ve met outside my family. Proof? He’s the only guy I’ve consistently bugged to “write it down”.
A crown jewel story for me involves his road initiation into the circus life.
It involves vicious clowns swinging juggling clubs, a kind French clown tending Gil’s subsequent bloody wounds and ends with handstands on broken bones the following night for an audience. If your busted body can accomplish the latter, then all the other clowns know they count on you to show up at future shows.
Grim entry into the world of live entertainment, but, to quote Paul Atreides, I see the truth in it.
