"I was asked by the good people at CID to illustrate what is probably my favorite Dead tune "Wharf Rat". Old man down... way down by the docks of the city. This tune has always meant so much to me, it embodies the full range of the human spirit, but I've always seen it as a lesson in having compassion and empathy for your fellow man, even if that means nothing more than hearing someone's story.
These prints were only available to those who purchased VIP packages through CID. Full disclosure, there were two editions of this image created. The first is a letterpress edition hand carved and printed in my own studio in Hartford, CT. Only the highest tier VIP group received these prints from tour. The second, larger edition, was a silkscreen edition produced by the master printers at Good Thoughts in Boulder, CO. My artist edition and variants being released this Friday are part of the first letterpress edition." - AJ
