About this poster
"I was asked to do the Missoula (Bonner) poster several months ago. I knew having the show in August, I wanted to center the poster around forest fires. I have memories as a kid of ash falling from the sky on our garden in our backyard. The topic of fires is about as common as the weather up here, be it the snow pack, spring rains, summer rivers, the topic always comes back to fires.
I worked at a shirt shop in college that used to print a lot of shirts for an arial firefighting company. There, we had to learn the different styles of planes by their names to assure we were printing the correct model on the correct garment. My favorite was always the old P2V which was developed during WW2. The only reason I could remember the name was “P” stands for propeller, which the larger BAE planes were without. These planes, along with the BAE, have been converted into the firefighting aircraft’s you now see flying over Montana during fire season.
It’s these small details that I think make a poster special. I even made sure to add the lightning strike paint job along the side of the plane. And of course, to have it refer to the band, there is a giant octopus holding on for dear life.
