About this poster
I had the honor of creating 3 pieces for 311 this tour. This is my 13th year of creating posters for this prestigious band, so I asked if I can create posters to commemorate this accomplishment for myself. It means a lot to be called upon each year for that many years to create a piece that defines, even for one night, such an awesome group.
Doing this job is not easy.. researching, drawing, inking, coloring, then production ready files. It's a lot harder than it sounds. I always try to create an image that not only defines or matches the bands esthetic, but that also means something to you, the audience. These 3 pieces are all set in the 3 different parts of the country in which they played, and began and ended where I was born and where I currently reside. These were very though out and put together for the whole story. From my beginnings, collecting comic books and watching cartoons to the SoCal influences living in the Inland Empire. There was a song assigned to each piece, each song was meant to play in your mind while entering this small piece of time I created.
The pieces connect from right to left instead left to right, to go along with the path the band traveled, from East to West. As the story moves from East to West, so does the color palette and the depiction of our friendly neighborhood Alien. I thought to myself, what would a friendly neighborhood alien do in each one of these geographical locations? And that's where my drawings began. I'm very happy with how these came out, I'm very happy that I was able to share this story with you all, and I really hope you can feel the journey and enjoy it… Thank you!!🖤
