Capturing the late Michael Chapman's legendary "Chemtone" cinematography perfectly in Martin Scorsese's masterpiece, that late night, New York city, seedy 70's vibe, transitioning to the dark hallway as things take a dark turn, the art flows with the movie to tell the story of troubled anti-hero Travis Bickle. No holding back on the colour palette here, soak it up, Krzysztof went all in on this monster of modern day art!
The original was created entirely in pencils, with colour added digitally, the artwork has a natural film grain look thanks to the fine gradients and shading with the various pencils he's used, different to Krzysztof's cleaner, digitally created work, it's suits the period & cinematography, while giving it that gritty 70's look and feel, and for those of us who still collect and appreciate physical media, having rewatched the 4k recently, which retained that nice grimy, grainy look (unlike some recent 4k releases for older titles), the art suits the movies look to a tee. This is part of why I love Krzysztof's art so much, every artwork is carefully considered, from the concept and composition, to the inspirations and the style of art used, and of course, the different ways & tools in Krzysztof's skillset to be able to create each piece, whether it be pencil, pen, digital or a mix of them, each one is unique.
