About this poster
Image taken from a 1913 woodcut by artist Edmund Sullivan, originally done to illustrate the 26th quatrain of The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam, this block print underscores the verse "The Flower that once has blown for ever dies."
The artist later released Skeleton and Roses, an art print featuring a similar design.
It was forged and sold surreptitiously because of the popularity of the original. It was printed on vellum stock and eliminates the Bindweed Press credit as well as deleting the “Mouse! Studios-66” credit above the words Ticket Outlets. This poster is a higher quality poster than the Bindweed Press original, with all new color plates stripped and cut. Corrections were made for the following printing flaws on the FD authorized printings: the “band aid” (first printing OP-1 only), “the crescent”, the “split petal”, the “blue blob” and “the scratch”. This poster was printed in nearly perfect registration, and while the printing flaws listed above were corrected here, a longer, narrower splotched band of darker blue is present along the inside of the bottom line black border of the top and left top quarter of the lighter blue in the central image area. This is the 1966 forgery “pirate print” poster, rumored to have been printed by Ben Friedman of the Postermat.
