About this poster
Image taken from a 1913 woodcut by artist Edmund Sullivan, originally done to illustrate the 26th quatrain of The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam, this block print underscores the verse "The Flower that once has blown for ever dies."
The artist later released Skeleton and Roses, an art print featuring a similar design.
The card is from “The David Singer Project” card deck. The art on the backs of the cards is by Ron Donovan, his tribute to David Singer, using his take on Singer’s BG-216 “Mushroom Man” image. Produced in 2006 to benefit artist David Singer, who had fallen ill and had been out of work for over a year,
ArtRock founder Phil Cushway, with Bill Sagan and Joe Armstrong commissioned this project to have 54 different artists sign a card with one of their own posters on the face. The story about the tremendous effort it took to get all these cards signed is truly remarkable. It required the efforts of others over several months to complete the project. There were only 100 signed decks made available. This card is from deck #15 of 100. The King of diamonds FD-26 card is double signed by Alton Kelley and Stanley Mouse – the only double signed card in the deck. Note that the authorized credits are on the face of the card. With only 100 signed decks, any collector of FD-26 authorized images will certainly find this the most difficult to obtain.
