About this poster
You know how sometimes people look at you funny when you say you are going to "a Phish festival" or "Phish show", because they are thinking of the aquatic creature? This poster is the mondegreen of Mondegreen! Kinda creepy ferris wheel, fish everywhere, foamy bubbly canopy over the iconic hammock forest of the Woodlands, and a taboot taboot in the forest taboot. Shit's getting pretty weird, alright.
It's been great getting back on the printing press after 4 long years! I had to relearn some things and made a lot of mistakes, but I got there like I knew I would because I am an effing ROCKSTAR.
But it's been a labor. My studio is DYI; my motto is "use what ya got." I use the sun to burn my stencils instead of a light table. This is challenging especially in the winter, as it is here in New Zealand. But I love it! It's free clean energy, and it puts me in tune with the environment from day to day. But conditions are variable and I have to test. A lot. I also have a very basic home-made printing press. If I can make it myself, I do. So nothing is precise and everything takes ages. But I prefer it this way. I like how the imperfections of my system spill into the prints and by this feedback I fine-tune along the way. I lose a lot of prints to this experimentation of method as I continue to teach myself how to screen print. But I know next time I will lose fewer.
So these prints have character! Don't worry, I have selected only the ones that came out beautifully, despite, and sometimes because of, their imperfections. I find that I am getting better at designing for the nuances of my printing process. 😊
