About this poster
I keep a secret bucket list of clients and venues I’d someday love to work with. Throughout the past six years, I’ve had the privilege of checking off a handful of them, but this project was my first time killing two birds with one stone, so to speak. Tonight Austin City Limits continues its 50th season with local legend Gary Clark Jr, and I’ve had the honor of producing the poster to commemorate the occasion.
Austin City Limits is a pillar of Austin’s local music scene - a catalogued endeavor which has hosted countless international acts with an eclectic brand of southern hospitality, while proudly raising the voices of locally grown talent. After five decades, it stands strong amongst fallen staples (Armadillo World Headquarters/Threadgillls, Vulcan Gas Company, among others) as one of the last genuine testaments to our city’s rich musical history.
I’ve always admired Gary’s journey, a fellow South Austin native who’d spent his teenage years cutting his teeth at Antone’s with local legends like Pinetop Perkins and Jimmy Vaughan, before a meteoric rise to international star status. His sonic exploration, while steadfastly rooted in Austin blues, continues to evolve above and beyond with each new album, and JPEG RAW is no exception.
