About this poster
“Base Camp” is a painting I started 14 years ago and recently finished. When I saw the character emerge during the painting process I felt like he was a mountain climber who had reached the base camp of his journey and he’s just beginning to unpack some of his gear. I always found it fascinating that just to reach base camp on some summits is in itself a monumental accomplishment. Now the real challenges begin. This piece was heavily influenced by European surrealism of the 1920’s especially Max Ernst." - DW
