About this poster
It’s been an amazing 10 years of working with 311. Working with Mike and the crew has been awesome. This year he came to me an said he had three shows in California coming that he wanted me to take on, so I got to work. They then added an extra show, and I already had an idea I was playing with, I just needed a spark.
I always listen to the band when I start drawing, to help find inspiration, something to light that spark. As I was listening, I found this verse that hit me, “You’ve got to trust your instinct, And let go of regret. You’ve got to bet on yourself now star. Cause that’s your best bet” and there it was.
Being that the shows were in Cali, I wanted to create something that I really enjoyed, from my skateboarding roots. I took several graphics that I always liked and mixed them up. The Roskopp set was one of my favorites, Mike McGill, Psycho Stick, Slime Balls, and the Powell Ripper.
The skull with the glasses starts off as the mask we wear, the glasses are the trance we are in, being hypnotized by media and marketing every day. As the piece goes on the octopus is our vessel, and who we really are inside. Ripping through and dropping all regret and believing in ourselves. The alien ripping out in the end symbolizes our true being, our true power, we just have to believe and bet on ourselves.
Mike then challenged me and asked if I can create a finale for the big day, and man I was so happy with how it came out.
I love how this entire series came out, and I’m actually really excited for you all to see them, nervous, but excited.
