About this poster
My goal for this poster was to not as much lean into local references, but to just… create a stunningly beautiful work of art. I wanna make fine art. I wanna be Monet. I had been wanting to draw a peacock with eyes on its’ spots, I had been wanting to draw a Chrysanthemum, I had been wanting to do a tall skinny poster with a tombstone frame. These are your results 🦚
Throughout most of my time creating gig posters it felt like more and more of my work was turning into commercial work that I was completing for a paycheck or to hit an ego quota, and not because I truly felt that artistic inspiration or creative spark with those projects. This project was the first where I took more of a fine-art artistic ethos towards the classic gig poster approach, and it’s got me really excited to apply this new perspective to future projects 🦚
