About this poster

There were two pre-concert printings the images of which are identical. However, as was the case with many of the early Bill Graham posters, they were printed on different paper stocks. Both are considered originals. The OP-1 (R) measuring 13 49/64 x 22 7/64” was printed on uncoated index stock which does not fluoresce or glow under black light. The OP-2 (L) measuring 13 49/64 x 22 31/64” was printed on a more porous stock, only evident under high magnification. It fluoresces under black light. If you line up the OP-1 and OP-2 together exactly at the top, the OP-2 is noticeably longer. Of course, you’d have to have both to differentiate printings this way. BG-32-RP-3 is the first reprint. While it looks like the originals, it is printed on the smoother stock of the type used on most other Bill Graham posters between #54 and #149. On the original handbills and postcards for this image the photograph of Jerry is reversed from the poster! Most wouldn’t notice that unless it’s pointed out. The original blank back handbill pictured below is BG-32-OHB-A measuring 5 13/64” x 7 31/32”. The back does not fluoresce under the glow of a black light. The original postcards are BG-32-OPC-C (Type A) measuring 4 13/64 x 8 1/64”, and BG-32-OPC-D (Type B) measuring 5 5/64 x 8”. Both have a “Place Stamp Here” reverse. The OPC-C is printed on stock similar to the OP-1 poster, and does not fluoresce under black light. The OPC-D is noticeably larger, as the margins on the sides are wider. Both have a West Coast Litho printer’s credit on the back. OPC-D fluoresces under black light, like the OP-2 poster. In 1986 a color poster and postcard for BG-32 was reprinted by Wes Wilson. On the reprint postcard the picture of Jerry is not reversed from the original posters. I will also share below that reprint postcard, BG-32-RPC-E. Measuring 4 1/32 x 6”, it is visibly smaller than the original handbills and postcards. Note that the Yardbirds with Country Joe and the Fish advertisement in the lower center of this poster is for a single Fillmore show to be held on October 23rd, 1966. This show is advertised on its own poster, BG-33, by John H Myers. It features a photo of the Yardbirds by Gered Mankowitz. This is the 32nd image in the Bill Graham Presents series, and the poster is pictured on page 119 of the Art of Rock book. All variants of the posters, handbills and postcards for BG-32 are described on pages 354 and 355 in the Eric King guide (12th ed).

"16" appears incorrectly in the right hand margin level with "Fish".
