How to Grade a Poster
Poster grading describes the physical condition of a poster and helps collectors communicate the state of an item consistently.
What Should You Look For?
Collectors generally look at creases, corner bends, edge wear, tears, pinholes, tape, adhesive residue, surface scratches, ink loss, fading, moisture damage, foxing, staining, waves or rippling, restoration, and trimming.
Condition Matters
Condition is one factor that can influence desirability and value. Two posters from the same edition may have very different market values depending on their physical condition.
Context Matters Too
A modern collectible print stored flat since release may reasonably be expected to remain nearly flawless. A promotional poster that was displayed on a telephone pole decades ago shouldn't necessarily be judged by the same standard. Accurate disclosure with clear photos is more useful than a single aggressive grade.
