CBGB & OMFUG was a legendary New York City club, originally intended for "Country, Bluegrass, Blues," but famously became a launching pad for punk and new wave bands like the Ramones, Blondie, and Talking Heads. The full name, Country Bluegrass Blues and Other Music For Uplifting Gourmandizers, was a joke. The club operated from 1973 until 2006, closing due to a rent dispute.
