“Sunday on the Green” was a unique, one-day music festival held on July 14, 1968, at the Marina Green near San Francisco’s St. Francis Yacht Club. Sponsored by the Thomas A. Dooley Foundation in support of the Jazz Action Movement, the free event showcased a remarkable lineup of top Bay Area rock and jazz acts. Performers included The Grateful Dead, The Ornette Coleman Quartet, The John Handy Quintet, The Big Black Sextet, The Youngbloods, Monte Waters Big Band, Granny Goose, and the Hylar Jones Quartet featuring vocalist Millie Foster.
