David Warren
Painter and printmaker David Warren spent most of his career living and working on the island of Maui, Hawaii. Born in Minnesota in 1940, Warren spent time in San Francisco during the psychedelic Sixties. He exhibited at a Burlingame art gallery in 1967 and used a drawing of a young woman by the artist L. Kent Hollister (1939-2007) to design a poster in 1968 advertising a dance concert sponsored by Chet Helms (1942-2005) and the Family Dog at the Avalon Ballroom; Warren provided the floral border around the portrait and provided the lettering. By the early 1970s Warren had moved to Maui. He lived “upcountry” in Pukalani on the northwestern slopes of Mt. Haleakala and had a studio and gallery in nearby Makawao. He taught printmaking at the Hui Noeau Visual Arts Center in Makawao and was active in the Lahina Arts Society.
