I’m from the last batch of gen x or the first batch of millennials, born in Nashville, Tennessee, the only Southerner in a family of Northeastern academics. This began a pattern of finding comfort in the uncomfortable and being a little out of place. I attended Washington University in St Louis for a BFA (’01) and The University Of South Dakota for an MFA (’04). Shortly thereafter, I moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The first decade of my professional career I spent almost exclusively in woodcut printmaking. Then I spent a half decade thrashing about, dabbling in design, illustration, house painting and some writing. Today, I’m compiling the lessons learned inside and outside the studio and focusing on a positive contribution to the world.
