Kasvot Växt was an obscure, short-lived progressive funk quartet that formed under the oppressive polar nights of the late 1970s at a remote scientific research facility in Greenland. Composed of musicians from across the Nordic region—Jules Haugen, Cleif Jårvinen, and brothers Horst and Georg Guomundurson—the band fused angular guitar work, primitive synthesizers, and hypnotic bass grooves into a highly experimental sound heavily influenced by the facility's neuro-acoustic experiments. After abruptly leaving Greenland, they recorded their single, near-mythical album í rokk in Bergen, Norway, which was released in 1981 on the short-lived Elektrisk Tung label. The album immediately vanished into obscurity due to the label's bankruptcy and the band's refusal to perform live, leaving behind a legendary, sub-zero cult classic defined by its bizarre, clinically abstract lyrics and infectious, minimalist rhythms.
