"The signage is from Main Street Memphis mid 20th Century. I combined two ink drawings to weave the city into the girl. The pose was inspired by old icon paintings and I posed my partner Anna Witt in a sort of adaptation of more than a few modern photographs. I wanted her to have a Blade Runner feel like Pris or Rachel. She's reflecting the past but staring down an uncertain future with fierceness.
I really liked the expression in the "shadow" layer of the Memphis poster so I used the ink to burn a screen in my home studio and hand pulled a small run of 25 on French paper" - DW
