One sunny afternoon in July of 2007, our nation’s economy completely fubar’d, violence and suffering exported to the Middle East in the name of “national security”, war profiteering accommodated without political restraint—we arrived, once again, to that most magical of events, the Republican National Convention.
But instead of abject shame for supporting the incompetent and corrupt regime of the previous 8 years, conservatives simply hitched their wagon to the next cardboard candidate. It was a convention that heralded a glittery new plan to make America great again ---again.
Three days after the convention, the polls had it—the convention “bump” indicated that their well-coifed candidate was now the presidential heir apparent.
Meet the new boss.
In my minds eye, I, in a flash of horror, imagined an Election Day where those clowns were again victorious. So I painted that imagining.
While working on the piece, I had the great epiphany which revealed that, from whatever side you’re standing, the other side *always* looks like a bunch of clowns...
