About this poster
BeJeweled Bio-mechanical Clockwork Thunderstorm Musical Cicada, of course, sets the tone for a night of Arkansas Groove Bugs rubbing their legs, setting their antennae on Receive for the Evening, vibrating to the Buzz.
The last time I saw Arkansas, we had loaded up a black Monte Carlo, late in the day in St. Louis. Paying no attention to the clouds darkening in the South, we headed for Texas. The Gulf. The Beach. And AC/DC. We had a full sheet of some genius' home made blotter concoction, painted onto blue construction paper, the grid of squares of each hit drawn on the paper in blue ball point pen. Quality Missouri goods. Forty packs of cigarettes, two cases of beer and an assortment of various powdered intoxicants and a couple of bags of flat packed brown Mexican Seed Weed. The Furr's three and half foot Graphix. A large Coleman thermos of 7-11 coffee, black, and nothing at all to eat. Everybody popped a tab and we hit the Highway South.
As soon as we hit the Arkansas border, the sky turned black and opened up wide. Sheets of blinding rain from one end of Arkansas to the other through the night. Every other second of the night was shocked alive by thousands of Lightning Bolts dancing staccato through the clouds illuminating the Mountains and Valleys in strobe effects. Semi trucks, the only other vehicles on the road, flashed past in the dark, one after another, threatening to wash us off the highway. Chain smoking, listening to Led Zeppelin Houses of the Holy at full volume, the windows tight against the Hurricane outside, the full thermos coffee spilled ion the floor well in the back seat. The storm ended the moment we hit the Texas border. A billboard in Texarkana asked us "CANIHEPYA?" We spilled out of the car, red-eyed and reeking, to an Audience of Ten foot Tall Texans, hats, boots and all gathered at the gas pumps wholly unimpressed by our arrival. But they knew we'd come from the direction of Arkansas. Where the Cicadas play.
