About this poster
On January 13, 1967, The Charlatans played the first of two shows at San Francisco’s Avalon Ballroom with Moby Grape and The Sparrow (later Steppenwolf). Titled Moby Grape, this is the 43rd poster in the Family Dog series. Designed by Alton Kelley and Stanley Mouse, the artwork features actress Alla Nazimova in an unused photographic still by Arthur Rice from the 1923 silent film Salome.
Issued alongside the Moby Grape poster, this postcard measures approximately 5″ × 7″. Three postcard versions exist. The Type B variant features a Family Dog credit and bulk mail permit printed on the back.
