Freakin’ out. I grew up a Blink kid. Dude Ranch was my freshman year soundtrack. Enema and Jacket accompanied me through my adolescence. I wore the shit out of those CD’s, taped all the TRL’s, bleach dyed my hair, ball-chain necklaces, and still wish I had never gotten rid of my Blink-182 ’Sluts’ shirt from Warp Tour ’99 (on eBay for $300 now, dammit).
I took inspiration from the band’s early days making Buddha and Cheshire Cat. It was all Mark (and Cam Jones) going full DIY. Taking photos, getting Xerox’d copies made, cutting, pasting, rearranging. The Cheshire Cat image was from a calendar Mark found. I wanted this to feel like some shit they may have put together back in the mid 90’s for a show at the skate park. Hence the Blink collage, which was scanned and used as details in this piece. It reminded me of the shit I used to put up on my bedroom (thanks Mom for the full cork-board wall) walls.
It took this project for me to realize I’m still a Blink kid. All of those early albums, from start to finish, continue to be amazing. No skips. And ONE MORE TIME picks it right back up. I hope these dudes keep making new music.
