Proud to present my latest exclusive Pop-Up poster for Metallica’s Charlotte, NC shows!
This piece draws on the state’s history as one with its own [North Carolina] Gold Rush and being among the first to sign a symbolic Declaration of Independence in a resounding rejection of [British] monarchy; a move which gestured towards the zenith of the American Revolution and the founding of the United States. Fittingly, I took inspiration from the songs “Ecstasy of Gold” and “King Nothing,” fusing them into my Metallica-tinged take on the Myth of King Midas which also visually echoes the bedazzled decorated skeletons of Catacomb’d Christian saints. An empty silhouette for a crown and a beckoning coffin attached to rotting tendons reinforce the image’s thesis: no ruler is divinely ordained or invincible and those who aspire towards greed and usurpation ought to be careful what they wish for.
These posters are available at the pop-up shop for this city’s stop on the M72 tour. Unlike Toronto (my home), I won’t be in attendance but will have an allotment of AP prints to sell at a later date.
