About this poster
Archival pigment print (16" x 20") of an original painting depicting The Growlers City Club album artwork. The painting was done by acclaimed photographer Pamela Littky who also did the photography for the album cover. Each print has been signed and numbered by Littky (1/150).
I worked directly with the band,” Littky says. “They had wanted the cover to include all of their friends and crew, and so I was able to do a rough sketch and work from that as far as composition and creative direction. I sketched out the composition and placed everyone into very specific positions,” Littky says. She wanted to shoot at dusk. She had scouted the best position to capture some fading light in the sky. She had a neon sign that says “City Club” fabricated for the shot and had it placed on the roof of the club.
I went into that shoot with a very thought-out plan because there were so many moving parts,” she says. She had the band members and their friends arrive on set about an hour before dusk in order to get everyone into position. When it comes to directing subjects, “I like to have a conversation up front and ask them how much direction they typically like and I use that as a gauge. I’ll also walk them through how the day is going to go, explain the concepts and what is expected of them. Once we get going, I will direct as much as I need to. But by chatting at the outset, they typically feel more comfortable having a solid understanding of what they can bring to the table.” The Growlers, she says, are avid performers, and were excited about the photo, which represented the community of loyal fans they have created.
