About this poster
The reference for this design is pretty deep but no mystery if you’re at all familiar or in love with attending the legendary ‘Cap’ in Port Chester, NY. The old framing and the golden squirrels are pulling from the iconic moldings and stunning, ornate busts throughout the walls and columns of the venue. I’ve actually been a little obsessed with those details for a bit and ironically, utilized them as background details for the very last poster I did for @phillesh in Halloween ‘22, at a much smaller scale and more abstracted. It was fun to draw it a lot more realistically and tribute it more as the main framing elements this time around, plus working this mutant jelly into the interaction of the whole scene! I started working on this SCI print and this concept, obviously unaware, a couple weeks before Phil’s last day, so it was serendipitous that the finish of this design and print was saturated in the news and homage of that. I’m intensely logical about everything but my weak spot is that I do believe timing and purpose do find us for a reason at times and it means something. I’m sure these shows will be bittersweet for some, but I know without a doubt they’ll be celebrations of life and keep inspiring people to move forward together. - CG
