Primus Buffalo 24 Besch (SE) - Regular Edition
About this poster
PRIMUS SUCKS! Very excited to share a new poster for @primusville and even more excited to see them live for the first time in almost 30 years (H.O.R.D.E. Fest 97, that's wild)! I could ramble on forever about this one, so I'll try and keep it short. Primus was one of "my" bands starting in middle school when I heard Too Many Puppies for the first time and went out and bought Frizzle Fry and Sailing the Seas of Cheese. I knew I wanted to have something pez related for this one and also wanted to play around with a reference that I hadn't really seen used yet. The first thing I thought of was the Humpty Dumpty verse from Pudding Time, but I didn't know how to mash those two thoughts together. Then I saw an old Pez ad where a character was riding a witch faced pez dispenser as a broom, & it made me think about that scene in Dr. Strangelove where Kong is riding the atomic bomb. Since he had a cowboy hat, what if I made Humpty a cowboy? If he's a cowboy, why not the cowboy outfit from the Winnona's Big Brown Beaver video? And so on, deep into the Primus K Hole..until I ended up with this poster. Pretty happy that I was able to sneak in a visual reference for every album from Frizzle Fry to the Brown Album, along with a little Wonka (and even Shark Girl is in there for Buffalo natives). I also finally found a poster where I could use one of my favorite typefaces, an R. Crumb creation for the title of his book "The Sweeter Side of R. Crumb." Just a super fun western style typeface, that needed a very specific home, and having it end up with either Primus (or maybe Ween) is the only thing that made sense to me. It's not exactly the same, but hopefully I did it justice.
