About this poster
The poster takes inspiration from the tour moniker The End is Nero as well as the new album “In Times New Roman” which I infer to contain themes of personal tragedy, crumbling empires and the embrace of one’s inner demons.
My interpretation depicts a cursed Emperor sitting atop a corrupted throne made of decrepit Classical props and symbolic objects inspired by various QOTSA songs and lyrical motifs. Tendrils of flame ensconce a burning laurel crown and decorate the scene as an anterior moon forms an interrupted halo around our figure. He holds a guitar in semi-repose (referencing the myth of Nero playing his fiddle as Rome burned), his face a fulminating, flame-damaged mask exposing an inner demonic nature, completing his transformation as he gazes out at us and unseen calamity.
