This captivating concert poster by acclaimed artist Ken Taylor showcases the dramatic skeleton of a blue whale, inspired by the famous exhibit at the Santa Barbara Natural History Museum.
Rendered in haunting shades of blue against a black background, the image depicts the massive whale skeleton breaking free from its museum confines and returning to the depths of the ocean. Hidden within its ribcage is a gramophone - suggesting that the power of music itself has reanimated the magnificent creature.
As the artist explained, "The idea was that the skeleton from the natural museum of history in Santa Barbara, propelled by its own song (hence the gramophone within its belly) ripped itself out of the exhibit and took off into the ocean."
Small fish dart around the skeleton as it glides through the deep blue waters, with ethereal light beams filtering down from above. The monochromatic blue palette perfectly captures both the underwater setting and pays homage to the "blue" whale subject.
This limited edition screenprint brilliantly combines natural history, music, and fantasy - making it a standout piece of memorabilia from Phish's October 2014 performances at the Santa Barbara Bowl.
