About this poster
This was inspired by Rick’s collection of early 20th century can and box labels. They were beautifully designed, combining vivid colors and elaborate custom lettering.
In 1967 Rick Griffin along with a handful of his contemporaries started the poster distribution company, Berkeley Bonaparte. There were 12 posters that Griffin created, collaborating on just a couple of those and appearing as a model in a couple others for photographer Bob Seidemann. This image is certainly one of Griffin’s most iconic Berkeley Bonaparte posters seeming like an advertisement for Cannabis and again using Griffin’s clever play on words. Having gone through 3 different authorized printings from 1967-1976, the image that we chose to reproduce depicts what is known as the second printing with the yellow background.
Limited edition prints will be accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity and Rick Griffin Estate Stamp.
