About this poster
I remember this poster very well. It was one of my first for Bill Graham presents and Arlene. The main idea was to exploit the bands origins in Vermont. My uncle was living in Vermont at the time and I was headed there for a visit that summer. So I was looking around for some quintessential Vermont stuff and I came across this can of maple syrup in the shape of a maple barn. I had a gingham table cloth and it gave me the opportunity to do lettering on the can. Arlene mentioned that the drummer used a vacuum cleaner as an instrument, so how could I work it in there? And I thought, let’s put a dent in the can and have syrup leaking out in the shape of a Hoover. I did it, and she said “Oh no! It’s an Electrolux- can you change it to an Electrolux?” So I painted it out and re-did it in the shape of an Electrolux. Then she said it was a Hoover after all. So I changed it back. Whoever has the original painting has three different versions of the image in one. The final version is a Hoover. I still don’t know which kind of vacuum he uses. - Christopher Peterson
