About this poster
"Cactus Garden”, 18” x 18", acrylic on cradled wood, 2020. My newest work! This is one of the only full paintings I have finished in the last 12 months. It felt SO good to complete it and I had fun working on it. We used this for the cover of Staf Magazine and it is also the piece that got into this year’s American Illustration book. My idea was an owl-like creature overseeing a dense cactus garden. I usually add some social commentary or politics in my work, even if you don’t see it, it’s usually there. But not in this one. I just wanted to re-explore painting since it has been a while, and painted things I was interested in, namely cacti! This painting was supposed to serve as my “jumping back in” to painting again, it was supposed to lead to a new body of work- but then Covid19 killed all my motivation. It is cool though, I have been painting 30+ years, it is a part of who I am, so I’ll be back! Details in the comments...
