About this poster
"When this show was first announced on September 7, I thought of the 900+ barns hand-painted by American signmaker Clark Byers from 1935-1969 with SEE ROCK CITY on their rooftops. Several of those barns still stand, and we used to see them en route to Chattanooga during family road trips through Tennessee (which occasionally included a visit to the unusual hybrid of nature and kitsch that is Rock City).
Half an hour after learning of this show I shared a quick writeup of the concept, designed the poster that night, and the next morning sent the file to @bakerprints to silkscreen. This was the fastest poster I’ve ever taken from idea to execution to approval to print, which feels in kinship with Clark Byers (who could paint up to six barns per day).
