About this poster
"I tend to think of The Avett Brothers as a group of wholesome, folksy troubadours on a kind of endless musical hero’s journey, so my recurring thing with most of my Avett posters is to illustrate the group on that endless trek, symbolic of the internal artistic route they walk as well as the literal one they traverse while touring. For my first poster with the band in 3 years, I decided to resume my focus on this theme, but to depict each member of the band in their own space, using Russian illustrator Ivan Biliban, whose style gently fuses local ethnography, architecture and folklore all wrapped up in lovely border design work which enhances the stories contained within using related decorative motifs, as my primary influence. And I decided to make them skeletons simply because people just seem to really dig it when I do that and I haven’t implemented this treatment for the band in some time. For this first entry, I focused on Scott Avett, who, in addition to his duties within the band, is an accomplished visual artist and is therefore depicted carrying canvases, brushes and his trusty banjo case. State symbols and local landmarks fill out the rest of the design as the summer heat permeates throughout the composition to create a piece that feels self-contained but with plenty for fans to latch onto and remember this show by." - Miles Tsang
