About this poster
Initially drawn intending it to advertise the Avalon Ballroom shows for Pink Floyd and Howlin’ Wolf, which would have been FD 130/131. Chet Helms could not afford to have it printed in color, so the artists took it to Bill Graham. Griffin redrew the right and left panels with the new bands and dates. Kelley did the cryptic looking collage in the center. Griffin drew the lettering and the insect limb-looking border art around it. This was the first Bill Graham Presents series poster to be printed as a double sized poster, measuring 21 63/64 x 28 27/64” (22 x 28 ½). The postcard is also double the size of the typical BG postcard, measuring 7 1/32 x 8 63/64” (7 x 9”). Bill Graham Presents printed both just once in the 60’s.
Double-sized postcard has calendar of BG events on left side and "place stamp here" rectangle in top right corner.
