About this poster
Were it not for the release of The Beatles "Sgt Peppers" the week after, The Monkees would have had 11 weeks at the #1 spot on the album charts that summer. They did get one week at #1 before Sgt Peppers hit the shelves and then spent 10 weeks at #2. For this reason The Monkees lost a lot of historical note and this album would have been the biggest hit of the year. The Monkees were one of the most popular bands of the sixties. This lithograph is based on the album art used for the LP "Headquarters", which was special also because it was not only the best selling of their career but it was also the first album that the band took control of the songwriting and production. From a historical perspective this is a very important album and a great image of the band.
