Gig Poster
Eric Clapton London 17 Pobiak
About this poster
"So it absolutely blew my mind when I was not only able to draw the name Eric Clapton, but could also add Delaney & Bonnie, the Blues Breakers, Derek and the Dominos, the Yardbirds, Cream, and Blind Faith to the art. BUT This also presented a problem. This was not art for a reunion tour, this is a tour celebrating 50 years of uninterrupted creation of music. If the Grateful Dead ask you make something for their reunion you make something that looks a poster from their heyday. If Black Sabbath asks you for art for their reunion you make something that looks like Sabbath would have done in the 70's. But Clapton has never stopped playing. His solo career has had many facets, and all of his bands have been quite different from one another, so the challenge was to find a constant. What can represent 50 years of drastically different music in one poster? His guitars. His guitars have been the constant across his 50 year and counting career. So with the guitars as the focus, as much care as possible was taken to represent them as realistically as possible, with every scratch, every dent and every crook of the wood grain. The guitars are also presented at Life size (1 to 1 scale) to make it as clear as possible that this is not just "a guitar" this is Eric Clapton's Martin 00-21, this is not "a guitar" this is Eric Clapton's Gibson ES 335, this is not "a guitar" this is Eric Clapton's Fender Stratocaster called "Blackie."" - AP
