About this poster
"In this one I painted an icon of my youth. The towering neon cactus of the Hilltop Steakhouse, a bit of Vegas glitz encamped on Route 1 north of Boston. I used to ride past this behemoth in the back seat of the family station wagon, on my way up to my grandparents house on weekends, waiting for it to go by like a rare lighthouse in a roiling sea of Volvos. This was once part of a parade of truly gigantic restaurants, some of the largest in the nation, up and down Route 1. Most are now closed and gone. Relics of another age. In this piece I’ve allowed the giant cactus to retire gracefully, to ride out its last days with others of its kind. To quietly continue to advertise something long gone to nobody at all." - SL
