The imagery is rich with symbolic elements: a radiant crown above Garcia's head mirrors the bright sun in the sky, while small pink birds float through swirling clouds. Garcia wears a star-patterned dark sweater, and at the center bottom is a significant motif - a golden doorway or portal with a mandala design, representing the "doors of perception" that were unlocked through Hofmann's discovery, which went on to profoundly influence Garcia and an entire generation of artists and musicians.
This officially licensed piece by artist Marq Spusta for Bicycle Day 2017 was released as a main edition of 500 prints on blue steel paper. The circular composition is embraced by an ornate Art Nouveau-style border with swirling patterns and spiral medallions in the corners. The metallic blue steel paper enhances the mystical quality of the piece, with a palette that weaves together blues, golds, reds, and black.
