"This last panel concludes our story in contemplative and reflective fashion, echoed by the pictorial symmetry of the figures inspired by lyrics from Transatlanticism’s opening track ‘The New Year’:
“I wish the world was flat like the old days
Then I could travel just by folding a map
No more airplanes, or speed trains, or freeways
There'd be no distance that can hold us back.”
Very happy with the division of labour we achieved here. Luke’s penchant for emotive landscapes and my own obsession with character and organic elements allowed us not just to really drive down on our specialties, but bounce ideas off one another with reckless abandon as well, which has resulted in one of the most Easter-egg-laden works in either of our respective careers with strong showings in each of our parts. I’ve been saying this to everyone but I really think we achieved something greater than the sum of our individual parts here and I’m really content with and grateful for that." - MT
