About this poster
"As I've said before, baseball cards were a HUGE part of my childhood. I was obsessed with spending every dollar I could get a hold of at the local card shop every weekend. I traded them. I took great care of them. I loved them. Without question, the greatest baseball card of all time is the Billy Ripken 1989 Fleer card. There is controversy as to how it happened, but apparently (by accident) Mr. Ripken posed with one of his practice bats that had F*** Face written on the knob of the bat (image in the comments). How Fleer didn't notice this is crazy! Perhaps they did and wanted the attention. Who knows? What I do know is that 11 year Darin Shock thought this was the greatest thing ever!! I still have that card hanging in my studio today! Anyway, when I started doing these baseball card inspired posters for the Avett Brothers, I fantasized that one day they'd perform at an Orioles home game and I could reference this glorious card. I was beyond excited to get the call and here it is...much cleaner of course!!
This is the very sketch I did to get approval for the poster. Originally, the plan was to have Joe on this card, but I decided to go with Bob (since so many folks missed out on the Bob Braves poster)." - DS
