About this poster
“The main plan for this poster was to get away from making scenes of The Gorge and the area around there, because we'd done a couple different posters for shows at The Gorge, and we'd always gone that route...a lot of times, we hone in on the geography or architecture of a location where a show is happening, but I always want to be able to reserve the right to veer away from that if I want, so I guess here we are, haha. I wanted to focus more on the fact that everyone's traveling and camping for these shows out there, so I made a compilation of camping supplies and road trip "necessities," laid out in the style of some of this kind of thing: http://thingsorganizedneatly.tumblr.com/
I was excited for the chance to sneak those little yellow 20s from the $20 bill onto something. Also, the Gorge images from these postcards and the large-format slides are a callback to the DMB Gorge poster that Jes made the year before...the linework is taken directly from that poster. There are a lot of other references to other things buried in here, and tools from my desk and other things that don't really fit the theme, but fit nicely in the specific space created by all the surrounding things. The full-bleed red border is a reference to some European postcards I'd seen at some point, but of course I don't have a direct reference to send along. I'm attaching my mega-basic sketch...I usually try to push things a little further along than this, but the idea was pretty simple here and these scribbles seemed to get the point across well enough.” - DB
