About this poster

Fire symbolizes enlightenment, human achievement, expression and progress, burning bright and illuminating us within the dark forest. We reside within that force, playing [to] ourselves in perpetuity, accompanied by anthropomorphic figures depicting species we've wiped off the face of the earth. I often think about the borrowed time we're on on this planet and if the orchestra of phantoms we've created died in vain or for some greater cause. This ambiguity of the worthiness of "art" is symbolized by the Golden Record hidden in plain sight within the rhino's tuba, an object we launched into space in hopes of contacting extraterrestrial life or imparting the fact or our existence if it reaches anyone who can comprehends its contents after we've burnt ourselves up as well. When we've conducted ourselves to the grave and the dark forest is quiet again, will the music have been worth it? I don't know how much of that is evident without an artist statement like this, but that's the headspace the imagery comes from.


I made this to be something my younger self would have liked to have on his wall, but that my older self would still be able to appreciate conceptually. I believe this is my first foil ever as well as one of the last pieces I drew on clayboard before moving on to drawing entirely digitally. - Miles Tsang
