About this poster
"When I was asked by Sideshow to create a new poster for The Exorcist, I wasn't sure if I wanted to do a third poster/print for the film. The last one took a long time to nail down and having spent so much brain energy on it, I didn't think I had another one in me. But I took breathe and put my sketch book to work. I knew I wanted to do something with Regan. I never did anything with her before so I went to work on creating something creepy and atmospheric. The first image here is that first sketch. Sideshow liked it but wanted something more conceptual and not so creepy. so I went back to work. I really like this one for being so different then what I usually do and I may have to keep with in my back pocket just in case. haha.
With the next sketch, I looked to the 70s and 80s Italian Fogli horror film designs for inspiration. I wanted to tell the story of the film in one image. Sideshow loved it. Warner Bros however did not. They did not want to use the image of Karras at all. Even without likeness. Plus they felt the Pazuzu statue didn't make sense being there as it wasn't that way in the film... sigh...
I noticed they didn't seem to mind Linda somewhat being there so I kept that aspect and then added in Captain Howdy peering in through the window. That final sketch shown in the third image was sent over and we got approval for the go ahead to final. The glass shattering was attempted when it went to final but I decided it didn't quite give the effect I wanted or saw in my head." - TP
